History
The congregation of the Sisters of the Cross was founded by Claudine Echernier in 1838 at Chavanod a little village Savoie in the South East of France. Claudine Echernier was a woman of deep faith, self sacrificing love, integrity of character, hard work, patient, endurance, generous, forgiving spirit, committed to the cause of God’s kingdom.
Having experienced the love of God in her life, she longed to “Make the Good God known and Loved”. With this aim, she devoted her time to eradicate ignorance and misery among the children, youth and women.
In her footsteps, the members of the congregation continue her mission through
- Presence among the youth
- Formal and non-formal education
- Promotion of women and the family ministry
- Service to the poor and the sick
- All catechetical and pastoral activities etc., in different parts of the world where their service is needed.
In 1974 at the invitation of Rt. Rev. Antony Muthu, D.D., the Bishop of Vellore, the Sisters of the Cross came to Sathuvachari, Vellore-9 to continue their mission of service according to the need of the locality. As a result, now we have now this institution along with residential school for the hearing impaired in the same campus. Rev.Fr. Xavier Paitutharayil, with his broad and farsighted vision remains a steady support to the Sisters in their mission from the very inception of this institution.
The school which was started as an English Medium Nursery and Primary School for both boys and girls was recognized as Matriculation School in 1982 by the Director of School Education Madras, and the first batch of students appeared for the Matriculation Public Examination in 1985. The school grew into a full pledged recognized Higher Secondary School in 1988.
The school has been led by able and enthusiastic sisters committed to the cause of integral development of students. We salute and remember the dedicated and committed services of former Principals Rev. Sr. Theresa Imelda (1981-82), Rev. Sr. Roseline (1982-84), Rev. Sr. Lisieux (1984-90), Rev. Sr. Humbeline (1990-93), Rev. Sr. Reggie (1993-94), Rev. Sr. Savari (1994-98), Rev. Sr. Selva (1998-00), Rev. Sr. Siriya Pushpam (2000-04), Rev. Sr. Mangala Mary (2004-05), Rev. Sr. Anto (2005-07), Rev. Sr. Lissy Kurian (2007-2011), Rev. Sr. Mangala Mary (2011-2012) Rev. Sr. U. Julie, (2012-2014),Rev. Sr. Punitha from (2014-17) and Rev. Sr. Jesu savari from 2017 till date.
The school, being a minority institution has its primary aim to impart to the members of the Christian community, a sound religious, moral, intellectual, social and physical formation based on the principles of Christian faith. However, the institution accepts other students without any discrimination of caste, creed and language.
The main purpose of the institution is to provide education to the under privileged, giving them a fighting chance in today’s world. To prove that we have succeeded in imparting sound knowledge and our students have established a track record of state and district ranks over the years.
To encourage and develop the innate talents of the students, the institution has set up various curricular, co-curricular and extra curricular activities. Science exhibitions are organized yearly to develop scientific attitude among the students. Our students participated in man inter school competitions and won allocades for themselves and the institution.
Social awareness is created by POSCAP activities and Charity Day celebration.
SMS service to parents and staff was started from 22nd December 2014 under the leadership of the Principal Rev. Sr. Punitha. The alumni and teachers rejoiced on this occasion.
Since then the Alumni Meet is successfully conducted on the last Saturday of the year. The president, Vice President (Sr. Principal), Secretary and Treasurer with co-ordinators draw an reciprocating their might to their Alma Mater.
It was a crowing glory when G.Shruthi Saraswathi stood III in the State in the X Std. Public Examination in March 2016. She also represented our school and Tamilnadu at the National Level Science Fair 2015-16 after winning the Zonal, District and State Levels.
It was a moment of great pride when C.Lokchand of Std.X won the National Level weight Lifting Championship award in 2016.
Our teachers Mrs. Y.D. Ramamani, M.Sc., B.Ed., received the Dr. Radhakrishnan Best Teacher Award form the Govt. of Tamil Nadu on September 5th 2016.
Holy Cross Matriculation Higher Secondary School trains its students in service and leadership through movements like YSM (since 2001), Scouts and Guides (2001), Scouts and Guides (2001), JRC (2003) and Red Ribbon Club (2006). Human Rights Club (2010) It’s a matter of great pride to the institution that 12 scouts and guides have received Rashtrapathi Award and 47 students the Governor Award. The JRC and Red Ribbon Club have organised awareness camps and rallies and indulged in cleaning the area in and around the school.
With a group of dedicated, self sufficient and well trained teachers led by an efficient management, the school is marching ahead to build a stronger nation. The values and attitudes developed here help the students to build together communities of freedom, fellowship and justice. With a special concern for the poor, the institution strives to reveal the merciful love of God and liberating power of Christ. We look upon humanity and the entire creation with love, respect and hope trying to find God’s love at work and to realize our motto, “Lovable of God and the people”.
